Rattling sound after replacing starter contacts
Rattling sound after replacing starter contacts
As discussed in another thread, I replaced the contacts in my starter as was suggested. Now the truck, 97 4wd 2500 automatic, starts fine but there is constant rattling sound coming from underneath the truck. Can anyone help?
Re:Rattling sound after replacing starter contacts
I never saw the checkball so assumed it was still in there. I'm going to take the starter back out and make sure that ball is in there and everything else for that matter. Thanks
It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

Re:Rattling sound after replacing starter contacts
This may be a longshot, but if the replacement contacts or insulators are significantly fatter than the original (gap now too small) they could be intermittantly making contact and causing the starter to momentarily turn and that would sound like a rattle.
For ball, hold it in place with a dab of grease prior to assembly.
Re:Rattling sound after replacing starter contacts
I just did the same reapair on mine today. One thing that is critical is that the contacts are fully seated, especially the one on the Positive terminal side. If they are fully seated, IE, torqued down tightly, they can rub on the solenoid, or possibly rattle around.

2 cents

gary
