A Question

Can these trucks start with just one battery?

Today, the truck wouldn't start...popped the hood and discovered that one terminal on drivers side battery was loose, tightened it up and away she went. it wasn't THAT loose but nevertheless it was loose enough.
Would that looseness be enough to not make the truck start? When the key was turned...it was just one click and then nothing.
Anyways, she's starting fine now. [undecided]

Re:A Question

you can use on ebattery but you have to have the wires where the other battery changed so that everything will run off one battery. DM01

Re:A Question

You bet they can start off one battery, many members have removed a battery in the warmer climates. However if you make use of your grid heaters on a regular basis then its best to have the two. The reason there are two batteries is due to the huge draw the grid heaters apply when in operation. If it was a loose connection then it would prevent starting due to not having enough juice to turn everything over.

Re:A Question

thats what i thought Kat. Also i have the daytime running lights....so if you DONT have your E-brake depressed, your headlights come on automatically drawing even more juice away from the grid heaters.

You'll probably have to do after awhile anyways.

Re:A Question

It'll start on just one battery. I believe the 1st gens only came with one.

Re:A Question

Drivers side battery is the primary battery. Passenger side is routed through it, so if a connection is loose (as you said yours was) there wouldn't be enough juice getting to the starter. In other words, you can't disconnect the drivers side battery and run the truck on the pass. batt. without doing some re-wiring.

Re:A Question

The way I understood it, is that we use the passenger battery to crank and then we use the driver side to run everything. All I know is this, is when I hooked up my system to my driver side battery, my headlights dimmed slightly. Hooked it up to the passenger, no more problems with dimming headlights.

Re:A Question

Sure they will start with one battery. Just like starting a ricer with a lawn mower battery. It will work for a while but it won't last when you need more power.
Tom

Re:A Question

:Mine came from Canada. It even had the kilometer speedo when I tried it out. The running lights REALLY irritate the WAshington State Ferry loaders, at night, they only want parking lights on when you load. So far none have tried to chew on me about them, but I know people that have almost got into fights about it. They are only 50% but still throw a good glare.

Re:A Question

The DRL's are mandatory in canada. At first I really hated them, but after awhile I have come to like them. Oncoming cars are much easier to see in marginal light situations.

However, depressing the emergency brake one click disables the lights in our trucks. I guess the powers decided that trucks might have to sit while loading, or something.

When I am in the southern states, I often disable the lights since so many people seem to be annoyed by them.
george
