PSC is here....old box removal time

Well my PSC steering box is here and WOW this thing is purddy.. Now my question is I want to flush as much of the old steering fluid out and put some fresh stuff in there. How is the best way to do this? I replaced the steering box last year so hopefully my pitman arm wont be too hard to remove.

I'm praying to the Lord above that after this my truck will finally drive down the road STRAIGHT, but if is doesn't I guess I'm just going to plow into a concrete wall.....

I used a turkey baster and sucked out all the old fluid from the pump reservoir. I replaced my stock box with an ARG box. I didn't know about PSC at the time. Fortunately I haven't had any problems with the ARG box. I used Royal Purple synthetic power steering fluid. Once you have the new box installed and the lines hooked up, fill the pump reservoir with synthetic power steering fluid (Redline, Royal Purple, and Vavoline are all good). Without starting the truck (truck on jack stands with the front wheels removed) rack the steering back and forth from lock to lock approximately 30-35 times to purge the air out of the system and you should be good to go. Use a good stout pitman arm puller and it should come off no problem. Also you might want to invest in a DSS steering stabilizer kit www.solidsteel.ca/DSS.htm . It works excellent and keeps the pitman shaft from racking. Especially important if your truck is lifted and running big tires. -Glen

I had to flush out the Power Steering system on a Ford that I had (son ran it very very low on fluid and the steering box locked up with crap from the pump). Replaced the PS pump, the steering box, all the hoses. Wanted to flush the new hoses and stuff. I filled the PS pump with fluid and turned it by hand, worked great in moving the fluid and got most of the air out of the system at the same time. Give it a try.

suck out the res with the turkey baster, then pull the return lines and stick them in a bucket. plug the res ports and fill it wit fluid. with the wheels raised off the ground, start the truck and turn the wheels lock to lock until you get clean fluid at the returns. hit the brakes until you get clean fluid at the returns. button it up and fill the fluid.

All I did was undue the lines and the fluid drained itself out. Your going to need about a quart of fluid.
