plastic ring @ ignition?

I was told by the ******* that in order to get the plastic ring that lights up for key entry,I have to buy the entire ignition.
Does anyone know where I might be able to find the ring only?

I have a 97 CTD. Is this engine supposed to start like a fuel injected gas motor? Mine will not start at all unless I slightly press pedal.

What about the junk yard for the plastic ring?? Is yours damaged? Junkyard seems the place to go if all you need is the plastic part. Even if they will only sell you the whole ignition, see if you can get a deal for one that they don't have a key for.

No start without pressing the go pedal? It sounds like you need to adjust the idle. What rpms does your truck idle at while in gear (if auto), or at idle if manual? Should be around 750 rpms for auto not sure about manual. Kevin

kd460 is right. You should not have to press on the pedal in order to start the truck and the junkyard is the place to go for the part that you need. Good luck.
