ignition ring light on all night long

well, of course I'm not sure how long this has been going on, but I walked up to my parked truck the other night and saw that the ignition ring light (around the ignition slot) was still lit. I went around and slammed the doors again, but it's still on.
I know that the light is somehow controlled by the hot thing under the dash... and it has gotten *slightly* cooler and more damp this week...
but how the heck do I get that to turn off?

Happy Thanksgiving
(and a continued thanks to everyone for all the advice I get when I post here)

You could reach under the dash and disconnect the thermal timer, this should turn off the light.
Careful it might be hot..

Are you referring to the timer or the weather?

Yeah, it sounds like the timer is stuck on. I'd just pull the darn thing out and throw it away - it's not like you don't know where the key goes.

Mine was doing this and I discovered that I had been leaving the dash light dimmer and interior light switch on. A slight rotation clockwise (I think) shut off the ring light. Hope this is your problem.

ignition light = dome light = stupid

sure enough, though I don't have a dome light (I should get around to that...) turns out I had the headlights switch all the way turned on, as though the dome light was on... thus, the ignition ring light was sucking battery power.

Thanks Bill for expecting me to be as stupid as I am.

Hey........ mine was on for six months before I figured it out. I had lots of other wiring issues and assumed it came with the package.

I have yet to replace the burned out dome light bulb and I have lots of them. We can all run off a list of problems we thought were exotic and turned out to be simple.
