overhead interior lighting

Hey guys, got sorta an annoying problem. Both the dome light, and map lights have stopped working. (I only have the short overhead console, no trip computer)

Noticed this right after I installed a new stereo in the truck. I was hoping that it was just a blown fuse but no luck . Im guessing when I was installing the headunit I damaged a wire or something behind the dash.

My question is does anyone know where I might start searching for the problem? Obviously somewhere behind the dash but any specific ideas?

Thanks in advance
Jeff

edit: also noticed that the underhood light isnt workin either. nothing else seems to be affected

Did you check the fuse box under the hood as well as the one on the dash?
Unless you accidently unplugged a connection the problem is likely a blown fuse.

I just looked at the wiring diagram of that circuit. The same fuse (#12) supplies all the stuff you mentioned. It should be a 10 amp fuse in the number 12 position.

There should be a removal tool in the box cover.

Quantril i did the exact same thing installing my stereo. i accidentily grounded out the power wire and my lights went out. it is the fuse in number twelve just takes a second to figure out how to get it out of the plastic cover. i spent about half an hour looking at fuses and that is the only one i didn't check thinking it couldn't be it, but i was surprised.

I only have one thing to say to you guys and gals: I LUV U. I was finishing the XM and cab lights this morning, when while installing the sun visor, I lost the radio, and interior lights. I spent 1/2 an hour looking and testing at fuses, and looking for maybe a hidden fusebox I was unaware of . I looked thru the service manual, but it was no help. After an hour of searching and worrying, I searched did a search for 'interior lights' and came across this thread. I went back outside, and had it fixed in 2 minutes. Thank you

Same thing happened to me when I installed gauges in the hole where the cup holder is. Had me stumped for a while because the fuse is labled IOD. For some reason it is singled out to have a special yellow retaining clip on it. I just yanked it off...not sure if there is a proper way to remove it.

I think electrical parts with funny yellow tags mean that they are related in some way to the airbag system. Thats the way it was on my Chevy anyhow..
