Re:over head compass

Have you tried resetting it by unhooking the batteries for 30 minutes, or so? I dunno if that will help, but's it's the only idea I have.

Re:over head compass

You say that you went thru the turning in circles thing. Did you place your compass in the calibration mode first?

Re:over head compass

Since there's no indication on where you are located, can we assume you aren't at the North Pole.

If so, compass would always read south.

I don't recall the manual saying anything about putting the compass into calibration mode, just drive around in circles a couple times.
2002 owners manual that is.

Re:over head compass

If all else fails, I've got a BIG hammer I can send you , JUST kiddin. New fangled gadgets don't always work as expected. My wife bought me a GPS and it said I was HERE, when I was THERE. I KNOW how to get home when I'm out in the woods riding in the jeep, the sun rises in the east, sets in the west, and if all else fails, climb a tree, get a signal on the cell phone and scream HELP I'M STUCK IN THE MUD. , if it ALL fails, I still have 2 feet, but most of the times, it's a LONG walk back, and the wrecker bill gets me more than a few nights on the couch :'(

Re:over head compass

Turn on the ignition and set the display to CompTemp.
While pressing the USMetric button, press the Comp
Temp button for at least 10 seconds until the CAL symbol
appears. Release both buttons and complete three 360 d
turns in an area free from large metal objects in not less
than 48 seconds. The CAL symbol will turn off and the
compass will (or should) function normally.

Re:over head compass

Here is how my '99 manual says to calibrate the compass...

drive the vehicle in a circle maintaining a speed of 5 to 11mph. The diameter of the circle should be between 30 and 90 ft. Once the compass has detected a calibration is taking place, the CAL light will come on. When this process is complete, the CAL light will go off and the compass will function normally. Stay away from metal objects and power lines while calibrating it.

Hope this helps!

Can't get the "cal" symbol on ours, either. Hubby just installed a console into the grey 2500 - everything else works. Compass says NW.

Any suggestions???

Well, the compass finally fixed itself. Weird... just all of a sudden.

Now I have to find the thread about the fuel capacity/mileage issue. LOL!
