I got a $7 timer at wally's-mart. It has a dial that you turn til the current time comes up to a mark, then a couple red and green 'flags' you stick on the dial that hit a rotary switch to turn it on and off. Good for 15 amps. I have to reset the time weekly but my minute and a half is a lot cheaper than the electric to run the heater all night.

I only have a 2 mile drive to work. Really need to get the transmission done in that gasser.

I have had to leave the Beast out in -28*C for hours on end and she still started. I was not happy and neither was the truck, it just had to be that way because I had no access to power. I let her run for a about five minutes and drove very gingerly for the first many kilometers. When possible and I can plug in I use a timer like the others have stated. Usually just a couple of hours and she fires up and purrs like a lion!

Cheers!

Mike

Thermostat timer sounds good, I will reluctantly take my Wally Mart hating hiney there only if I can't find one at ACE.

how many watts does the block heater snap up? I have been trying to hunt down the cause of my high electric bill for years! I sold my 60" DLP big screen due to the 300w lamp inside it and replaced it with a 57" LED, that should help plus a excuse to have a sweet TV

Pretty sure it is 750W.

Sounds like a reason to invest in a Webasto..........

I can't remember for sure how much it draws but it is WAY more than the block heater in a gasser.
