non power seat to power seat swap
Power seat boondoggle
well I went to the junkyard today.
Got a power seat unit from a 01 model truck.
The plug under it is just a simple pos and neg hookup.
It is the seats that have the lumbar adjustments that seem complicated.
See in order to go with the lumbar seat,I will need the whole seatback and all due to the seatbelts being located in the seat itself..
The only snagger with this one is one of the plastic gears is broken in the head of one of the electric motors. It is actually a ring and pinion. the ring gear broke...It is attatched to a metal worm gear.
I will get it replaced.
The only other problem is mounting the seat adjustment switch cluster.
The seat bottoms are actually different.
Mine has a plastic surround and the other one didnot. and there is a hole cut out in the seat bottom frame in the meatl part.
Cutting the hole is no biggie.
I am hoping that there is a plastic skirt with the provision for switches.
Will be at the yard again tomorrow!

GCSS,
What do your manual seats look like? Are they comfortable?
The manual seats in my 1998 3500 are not comfortable. I may be willing to take them off your hands.
I am wondering the 01 manual seat is made just like the 01 power seat. I had an 01 with power seats, and it was nice. If the manual is anything like the power, I want them....lol.

GCSS, I need an update on what you have done, with what optioned seats. I am in the process of switching my 96 seats out for something newer. I have some newer manual seats right now, and I was thinking the seats tracks for the 96 would swap onto the newer ones, but WRONG! I'm checking with my connection for a power driver's seat now, and I need to know what I'm in for as far as wiring goes.
Thanks,
Chris
