New truck - q's.

01 2500 2wd HO 6spd.

I got this 160K mile old truck now to replace my 03 that was stolen and have some questions...

I am going to change the diff fluid, the trans fluid, fuel filter, air filter, engine oil/filter, give it a good lube... check the u-joints... I'm sure there's tons of other things I should/can check but any other major ones I should look into sooner rather than later?

It needs an alignment... I'd prefer to just take this to a shop that has a computer/laser alignment tool rather than mess around myself. Any shops in particular that can "handle" our big trucks well. It's a 2WD.

Maintenance says at 150K miles to adjust valve lashings or something. I don't know how to do this. What is involved? I am comfortable doing most things and like learning new things, but if it is cheap I'd be happy taking it to a Cummins dealer if they'll do a better job.

I was thinking about running 1 tank of Biodiesel B100 (100%) through the tank to clean out deposits. Safe? I'll be prepared for many clogged fuel filters.

Being that the truck is already at 160K miles... should I stick to dino oil? I am afraid if I go put synthetic I will get a bunch of leaking seals. Delvac 1300 for the motor... what about trans/diff?

For tires, how are these BFGoodrich Commercial T/A All seasons? They're LR E with 3415 # / tire load rating and they're running $126 +tax each at Discounttire. Balancing, valve stems, tire disposal included. The BFG Commercial T/A Traction looks kinda cool too. Won't last as long but nicer in the snow if I ever get up to Flagstaff in the winter... it is a 2WD truck afterall....

Michelin LTX A/S's are considerably more. Other choices for 265/75/16's, LR E and 3415# per tire rating?

Anything else I should be thinking about? I feel like there should be a lot more to worry about on a 160K mile old truck but other than fluid change, an alignment and tires it seems perfect...

BTW, contrary to dodgeram.info, it is an 01 made in 8/00 with REAR discs... nice!

THANKS!

PS: 20 MPG at 73 MPH with the A/C on and... those hideous Mud Terrain tires in the back.

Looks like a nice truck!

The 6 speed really likes Redline MTL in it. There are plenty of threads on here and TDR confirming that advice.

I'm sure others will chime in on this and other aspects of your planned service.

Gauges,gauges,gauges... For sure a fuel pressure gauge. Just do a search on this site about dead or dying lift pump and injector pump failing because lift pump died.

So far I like my Commercial TA tractions, Have less then 5k on them. Price is certainly right. I got mine at Costco installed for $117 I think (235/85/16E).

My belief is dino in the crankcase and syn in the gears. Motor oil tends to get changed on schedule...gears don't. I'm also a Redline guy.

Congrats on the new truck.

Rattletrap... I called Discount Tire and they said that BFG Hasn't even made these tires yet Not to question you but just to double check... you have Commercial T/A Tractions not All Seasons, right?

Hey thanks, yes it was on eBay. I flew into Dallas on Saturday and drive her home 1100 miles. I think it looks pretty nice too for 160K miles... I'll be getting matching tires and ditching the toolbox/chrome rails for a bedliner I believe.

NJ...correct...BFG Commercial Traction in 235/85/16. Had my choice of "traction" or "rib"...no A/T

They're on BFG's website. I first found out about them from Costco's rack.

Ahhh I just called. The 265 isn't out until "3rd quarter" which now is "4th" quarter... I guess I'll get the Commercial T/A All Season (I Guess that'd be rib).

K. On SRW 265/75/16 is a better choice. More load range and better looking IMHO.
