New Project

I've just been informed that I 'shall' be rebuilding our 98.5 Dodge 3500 dually 4X4. This winter I'll be pulling the bed off and building a flatbed for it with storage boxes... somewhere. Anyway, the purpose of this is to have a back-up vehicle to pull our 12,000 pound fire safety trailer. This trailer has a tongue weight of about 3500 pounds, so I don't think the factory receiver hitch is gonna fly! I'll have to make a towing plate between the frame rails and reinforce it extensively so the trailer doesn't tear it off.

I'd also like to put a set of towing mirrors on it like the later generation trucks have. The ones on it now won't even show you out past the fender flares! Anyone know if there's a way to retrofit the newer mirrors onto a 98? Or is there aftermarket products available now?

Thanks!

They will fit, you just need the backer plates so they don't weaken the door.

You want anything up to 2002 2500/3500. Those models will fit back to 94. The power heated ones will need suitable wiring if you plan on those.

I, on the other hand, is kinda smart once in a whiles!!

I have been known to fit both of those categories. Unfortunately it never seems to coincide with the right one to be most appropriate for the situation.
