I know, you DID post this in the 24v section but the first question everybody is gonna ask - are you talking about 12v or 24v '98?

Welcome to DTR!

1998 has the best of both worlds, you can get a 12 valve engine in the 98-98.4, or the 24V engine in the 98.5 year model, The 12V is the more desirable of the two and has that P7100 injection pump which so many people desire. the 12 valve engine is simple to work on, easy as pie to modify, and is just plain reliable, and can be worked on with simple hand tools..

the 24 valve can be modified as well, and can be pretty reliable except for the injection pump dyin on you due to low fuel pressure, Fuel pressure monitering is a must on these engines to make them last. They can make great power and be just as reliable as a 12V if properly taken care of...

The trucks? well they last alright, but if its a 4wd, u might wanna look at the front end of it, and if its a 12 valve, ask if the Killer Dowel Pin has been killed, KDP for short, other than that, i cant think of anymore things.. both can come with quad or normal cabs tho, or regular extended cabs if im not mistaken...

Hope this helps..

Rick

Before you buy, check for the infamous "53" block.

How many miles are on the truck?
Is it standard or auto?
What has already been fixed/replaced/modified?
