I have a Cummins dealer in town and I need to replace my block heater cord in my 1999 truck.

If you have the part# please provide it to me.

Did they ask you for a part number? Just ask for a block heater cord for an ISB.

Got the cord at the local Cummins dealer for $16.

I had one heck of a time removing the old cord. I removed my BHAF and the oil filter to make room. The piece of aluminum ring that holds the cord in place -- supposed to be just hand tightned, would not budge. I had to use a vise grip to loosen it. With the very limited amount of space, it was very hard to use the vise grip. In any event, I got the new one in place. I'll find out tomorrow morning if the block heater works.

Did yours have the note on it that said:

"Disconnect heater cord, then wait a minute before starting engine"

Nope.

Is that a big deal? Most of the time I disconnect before starting. Sometimes I forget. What's the consequence?

Owners manual for my rigs says it's ok and even recommends leaving the heater plugged in during warmup in cold weather.

Good thing too, when it's subzero I use a remote starter and am not about to go outside and unplug it.
Been doing it for fifteen years, if it's going to cause a problem it's taking it's sweet time. Never have replaced the elements or cords.
