Need help locating part

I broke my water in fuel sensor about 2 weeks ago, called the Cummins dealer and was told it was changed over to a fleetgaurd part. Ordered the part and told by Cummins parts dealer "about a week".

Got a call today and was told "part no longer available-might want to try Dodge dealer".

So what's up with that? Genos has the WIF sensor for the 1996, no listing for the 1997 (unless I missed it). So fleetgaurd makes them for the 96 but not the 97? (the 1997 is smaller than the 96).

Anybody got any ideas on locating the part for a 1997?

Thanks, Kevin

Rich, yes, 97-99 should be the same part. I can't believe that Cummins/Fleetgaurd would have dropped the part. I think I'm getting a line of bull from local Cummins parts place. I guess I have no choice but to try the dealer, got get ready for this one $$$$$$$$$.

Any body else have this problem with parts being "dropped"? 1999 was not that long ago. Thanks, Kevin

You better go to cummins, dodge has them and get this, 96 and down $52, 97 and up $122, cummins has them they just need your engine serial number as they stock different ones for different applications. Goodluck,,,Rick

Rick, thanks for checking it out. I pretty much found out the same thing: mopar4less wants $97.00 and it's not in stock.

Just need to find another Cummins dealer, the one I talked to told me it's "not available". Thanks, Kevin

I dont know, but I might just have to find a plug for the bottom of the filter instead. I change my fuel filters every oil change(only a couple of times have I missed one and got it the next change)and I have yet to have the light come on anyhow. I would imagine that there may be a solid filter out there, without the sensor hole as well.

If that's what you want to do a 1/2"x20 tpi oil drain plug will fit perfectly.
About $3 from most auto parts.

Dojman, the filter setup on the 97-99 is different than yours. It's not a spin on, it's a cannister type with a drop in filter. (Remove nut, pull down cannister, remove old filter element, put in new element, replace cannister, tighten nut).

It has a separate WIF sensor that goes into the side (lower) of the cannister, and a separate drain valve (also on the side of the cannister). I really don't like the set up at all. I wish I had the 1996 set up like yours. Simple but effective.

Infedel, thats what I have in there now, but I want to replace the plug with the WIF sensor, better safe than sorry I guess. Thanks, Kevin

I didnt realize 97's had that type on them. I had a 98.5 that I guess had the same style. These trucks are not old enough to be having that kind of problem finding parts
