Missing Grease Nipples???

Greased my truck I inherited from the old man today, Only counted 4 grease zerks. 3 are stock and the last is from the steering stabalizer. I looked and looked and looked. It's no wonder to me that the steering on these trucks go to hell so fast when you can't put grease to anything on them!

The newer the truck the fewer the zerks.
My '95 4wd has seven.
Guess they figure a "lubed for life" joint is better than one with a zerk that never gets greased.

Many folks couldn't tell you what a zerk fitting was if their life depended on it.

To them, a "Tool Kit" is a cellphone (with the dealer's phone number on speed dial) and a Platinum Card.

After working on vehicles for over 25 years, I really couldn't say honestly that greasable steering parts last any longer than non-greasable. I can say for certain that non-greasable u-joints last longer (except AAM ones).

True, I remember when I first got my 1st gen, I greased the whole front end for the first time, replaced a busted zerk, and the truck drove straighter than any vehicle we owned except for our KW. How recomended / un-recomended would it be to add some zerks to say the ball joints and bottom side of the knuckles?

Since my '95s have adequate zerks I haven't felt the need but on some of my newer tractors I've drilled and tapped in zerks that eliminated having to replace joints
A couple of my zerk additions were so successful that the local John Deere dealer does the additions on new tractors before they leave the lot.

I would say go for it on your Dodge, they're easy to add.

I saw the words missing nipples in the title and thought this thread was about something else...
