Mid twenties fuel mileage in a 4x4, am I dreaming?

Re:Mid twenties fuel mileage in a 4x4, am I dreaming?
Best I got was 25 crusing at 70 on a trip to Oklahoma last summer. Usually get about 14-16 in the city (sorta heavy foot). My worst tank yet has been 11 and that was because I had just gotten the comp installed and I needed to "test" it out. :

Did anyone notice much of a difference in mileage (corrected) when changing to bigger tires like the 305/70/16s? Are there any other things you can do to make noticeable improvements? (tonneau cover maybe?)

Of my two 300DTs one gets 24ish (winter blend :P) and the other gets 28.5mpg (summer only). So I'd be sacrificing 28.5mpg or a little better to get a truck which appears to get approx. 22mpg in those same conditions. However my 300DT's mileage is slaughtered going much quicker than 60mph. I like the Jetta TDI (can get ~50mpg) but it is just to small for me to consider (safetywise).

Also what kind of 1/4mi would one of these 3/4 4x4s turn stock? What is the fastest one out there? Thanks for the hint BigBlue.

Thanks for all the replies.

Mine seems to get slightly less per gallon with my 315's.

But, I have been using GPS for odometer correction, and have forgotten to turn it on for a couple short trips, so I don't have accurate figures yet.

I did do one long freeway run and got 14.5 mpg, about what my average city/highway was with the stock tires.
This is on winter fuel though.

Once my Superlift Truespeed is working right, I'll post some accurate numbers.

phox

I tell you what boys, mpg dont mean much. It doesnt say what you drag or how you drag it, know what I mean? I have to say that and make myself believe it cause I have only once had a ctd that got over twenty. These are empty figures, with probably 70/30 highway(short trips generally)to city ratio.
90 reg cab ton dually, 2wd 5 spd-15
95 reg cab 2wd auto/OD -21
96 ext cab 4x4 5spd-19
98.5 ext cab ton dually, 2wd 5spd-14
01 qc ton dually, 2wd 5spd- 16 (sick now: 13mpg)
I say it all depends on how you drive it. I can get 22 in the summer, not speeding on the highway. I can also get as low as 13 with the comp all the way up smoking ricers and other diesels around town. Mileage is directly proportional to the right foot.
