MBRP Install ??
MBRP Install ??
how much of a pain in the neck is this aluminized 4" going to be to install turbo back---am i looking at an hour or HOURS? put it all in place as a dry fit then tack and remove to weld solid or what? thanks for the help i know some one has done one and worked all thebugs out.
Just put one in last night and finished this morning. I put on the 304 stainless 4 inch. took me about 2.5 hours but that is because I have a pto and hydraulic pump that I had to remove to fit it on. Should take a normal install in less than 1.5 hours. everything fits up real nice and clamps on easy with only three clamps. Hangers are push in and super simple.
I put my T409 SS 4 in MBRP on a few years ago. The hardest part for me was removing the old exhaust but a sawzall did it right. The MBRP has the rods welded onto the exhaust in the same location as the old exhaust so they fit in the existing hangers using the existing rubber donuts.
It took a several LOONG wobble extensions from underneath to remove the downpipe bolts/nuts (whatever they were). Put alot of PB-Blaster on the nuts ahead of time. Just hang the pieces as you install. I pre-fit the pipes ahead of time on the ground because they were dinged a little and needed re-shaped.
I'd recommend band clamps in place of the U-bolts to prevent crimping the pipes together rendering them impossible to remove again. I got 3 4in SS bank clamps from NAPA at about $10 apiece.

It took me about an hour and a half. I hit the flange bolts w/ Kroil for two days before the exhaust arrived and cut the old system out w/ a sawzall. After install i used a pipe bender and tweaked the hangers a little to adjust the fit. Its a nice kit and goes on pretty easy. Read the instructions first and get after it. Kurt
It probably took me 4 hours and I used a hacksaw in my driveway. I really don't care about bragging about how long it took me. You start taking the old exhaust out from the back and work your way to the turbo. Let the downpipe bolts sit in some PB Blaster for a while. Like Dave Miller, I unscrewed the bolts from the bottom by attaching several wobbly extensions. After everything was installed I took it to a muffler shop and had them weld in two hangers nice and tight. One of the hangers that came with my kit didn't fit right (at the tranny). The other one was at the very rear.

What wcbcruzer is referring to is if you have a pre-98.5 (I believe) the real hanger has to be removed and a new hanger put in in a different location. I bought the replacement hanger for $30 but I think any 98.5 up hanger will work. I had to drill holes in the frame rail to put the new hanger in. All the other hangers worked for me.
DieselNomad has an 02 so the existing hangers should work.

got after it this afternoon and finished in about 2 hours, but what a pain in the EDIT the old down pipe were to just get at but some cussing got them to give ---all in all it sounds great just like a kenny now also put in a BHAF----whhoo hooo--let er rip
Did one last summer with the truck sitting on it's tires, took a little over an hour, was a perfect fit. All I did is tack the big chrome tip they gave me on to the tail pipe so no one could take it off.
Wcbcruzr, I wasn't trying to be the fastest installer. I was trying to beat the rain and get my kids so I figured if got after it and left the beer in the fridge I could do it after reading a ton of other threads on the install. I've got a cordless sawzall and some cast iron blades and it went thru the old exhaust like butter.
A couple of my hangers didn't quite line up but I'm sure this is because they have to fit so many variations of these trucks...no big deal.
DieselNomad, So how does she sound now, uh? Pretty good I bet your thinkin!
