Lightbulb Lighting Problems

So I noticed that one of my headlights is dimmer than the other, like by a lot it barely puts out any light on high and low. The other "normal" light doesn't put out much light either but appears bright if you look at it. Driving at night basically sucks its really hard to see anything, like I have no lights. I replace both bulbs and nothing? It hasn't been a gradual thing its been this way since I bought it (used) i just don't do much night driving. Anyone have any suggestions? Also I notice that when I'm in the truck and its idling the lights in the cab periodically get bright then return to normal. If anyone could help me with either of those two problems it would be much appreciate

Thank You.

The fact that they get brighter and dimmer is probably your grid heater turning on and off as it uses alot of power. You say one light is brighter then the other, Could it be that they are poorly aimed. If there aimed good you could pull the bulb on one side and check it with a voltmeter and then do the same to the other side to see if they are the same. The factory headlights suck on these trucks. My best suggestion would be to either buy some one piece headlights with clear lenses like these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/94-01...spagenameZWDVW and upgrade the wiring with a hd harness from lmc truck or elsewhere. Or put sport lights on like these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/94-01...spagenameZWDVW these use four bulbs, two for low beam and four on high, they also have clear lenses and requiring doing some wiring but no cutting factory wires though.

A word of warning. I bought these last month and found they have no method of aiming. They are fixed position. I can't seen squat right now. I'm thinking of tilting with spacers behind the mounting screws.

Really? How dumb are some companys to build headlights without adjustment? I did the sport headlights on my truck and I love them.

I actually pulled the light out and checked it out of the house while it was on, and it was dim. I switch the same light to the other side and it was bright. I didn't have a voltmeter handy, but from what it sounds like this is a notorious problem, bad factor wiring and lenses?

Hey I was reading another thread haloman has those lights and said there is an adjusting screw on the back? Dumb place for it. But my vote still goes towords the sport lights. Do a search on here about them.

I stand corrected. After pulling my light tonight it sure nough has an adjustment. When I first installed it I thought it was for a ground wire I didn't find.

I also discovered that I only have 11.5v at the light. I'm buying the harness upgrade tonight.

Yep they have an adjustment screw.

Zotie I would just get the relay harness from lmctruck.com and have it activated by the headlight socket that is working.

Finished building my own relay harness this weekend (I have a hard time waiting for UPS ). Cost about $30 with Napa parts (2 relays, wire, spade connectors, wire loom) . Works great and I now can see where I'm going .

LMC harness only cost $30 plus shipping. I guess my time is too valuable to make one.

I was only joking (thats hard to convey on the internet), knowing how well I solder I would blow something up for sure.
