You have to keep the paint from chipping.
running boards are a great way to keep the rocks from flying up, but some designs of running boards hold the salt against them and the body causing cancer real fast..

Tom
Tom,

Your right about that. When I installed mine, the guy behind the counter suggested I run a bead of clear silicone sealant along the pinch weld edge and running board. Also drill the holes and then paint/silicone them. He said that's what they've been doing for years and really cut down on the rusting. Oh yeah, you need to start out with a good name brand board that fits the truck. By the way... I'm starting to get hungry for lobster again.

They only go around the top of the well from the body line molding to the other side body line molding. IMHO my red (not two-tone) truck would look plain without them. Although they do not jump out at you when you look at the truck they are a noticable improvement.
Redrammnc,
Mine is white, and I wonder if it would make it look like I was trying to hard. I like chrome, but I have seen trucks with so much chrome on them, in the wrong places, that they looked trashy. That's what I am worried about.
See pic and tell me what you think.

Wish just one of my truck pics didn't suck.

I had a guy tell me today that the worst thing I could do is undercoat my truck. He said he has seen more vehicles with undercoat rust than without, noting his girlfriend's 94 Blazer as an example. He said it has no undercoat and no rust, unlike other Blazers of that year.

Chris
Re:Let's Talk RUST
my grandpa always said best thing you can do about rust is wash the truck often, keep it clean and it will last a long time
.....(his 64 falcon was pretty much rust free when he got rid of it in 89)
and if you go on that theory my truck will be rusted to the window line by this time next year, it's never clean
BTW stamey .......nice truck, looks good

Re:Let's Talk RUST
I caught just a little on the inside of my doors, behind the weather stripping at the bottom, and I put some corrosion inhibitor on it immediately. I hope that will curb it. I also sprayed the corrosion inhibitor inside the door drain holes to stop it from forming on the inside. Another finger cross.

Chris

My 98 qc had rust starting on the front door lower seams also. I removed the weather strip and wire brushed all the rust off use one of those converters on it then painted it really good useing rust olem. That was the outside. took the door pads off, wasn't a bit of rust I could see inside but I soaked it down good with a brush loaded with rust olem paint. Stone chips, I even get them on the hood, has got to be the thinnist paint on earth on my truck, Thank god and a 03 she's gone. SOOOOOOOOOON.
;D Al

My cousin works at a body shop and both him and the owner told me to lube door hinges and latches quite often. I also pop the rubber plugs out of the inside of the doors and oil the crap out of them. Also pop out the plugs on inside of cab by door latches and oil them plus oil up the rocker panels.
carty
Re:Let's Talk RUST
Every Spring and Fall I power wash the bottom of the truck and get a couple of cans of black paint and spray the frame and everything that could rust under the truck. Also wax all painted and chrome surfaces at the same time. Worked on my 2000. Alway looked new. Make sure you get the tow hitch they really will rust.
