KDP - How do you know if it has been replaced?

I have bought this 2500 and have received several replys from the DTR forum about getting the KDP fixed. Is there anyway to know if the KDP has already been fixed? If not, what other work would be good to do once the cover is off?

If it has been tabbed (the most common fix) you wont know until you get the timing cover off.

Heres some links for you showing both methods of repair:

http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/Dowel_Pin/tab.htm

http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/Dowel_Pin/tab.htm

http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/Dowel_Pin/bolt.htm

Also, more general CTD info for you here:

http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/maint/2nd_Gen-12v.htm

There are several more bolts (6 or 8 I believe), that should be secured with red or green Loctite.

The Dr. is correct however there are also many shops that use a jig and drill a hole in the cover, then insert a screw that will hold the pin in place so you would be able to see that.

This can be seen in the third link I posted. Problem is that they dont show what it looks like when its done. Never seen one but I assume it just looks like a screw/bolt on the timing case.

The jig bolt head is behind the fan pulley and recessed. Don't think you can see it without removing the pulley, even with a mirror.

The drill jig method interests me. Where does one get one, or is it a 'large shop' only tool?

When I did mine I just pulled the cover and tabbed it. The jig seemed like a lot of work and trouble to track one down.

You can buy a jig from Harold at rvhvnfn@juno.com or 208 850-8749
Last I checked they were around $30.
