installed STOP fast parts (03-08 brake upgrade on an 01-02)
Well I broke down and did it today, I finished picking up the rotors and pads for the 03-08 brake conversion on an 01 truck, I should have taken a couple pictures...what a difference in the size of the pads, and the rotors are a full inch larger in diameter. I installed them tonight, I did not get much chance for a road test, as it started snowing just as I got out on the road, but inital feel is quite remarkable, I'll update tomorrow after I've abused them some.
It was a simple and easy conversion, no different than replacing brake parts...just used the 3rd gen parts.
all that was needed was the following parts from 03-08
x2 caliper brackets
x2 rotors
set of pads
17in rims and tires
I took off perfectly good rotors (new 3 months ago) and hawk pads that have maybe a month on them, to do this upgrade...
I've never been so excited to STOP

neat idea, keep us updated... I'm needing front pads here soon... May be an option for me!! Towing heavy I'd love to have a bit more stopping power.... Already have 3rd gen wheels!

Its not a little better stopping power its a lot better braking, all I can say is if you already have 17" wheels do it you will NOT be dissapointed!!!!! I can plant this thing on its nose and I can drag the front wheels at 50mph at will. it really shows how well it stops now when you dig deep into the pedal, as I said on the other site, I actually feel the rear ABS cycle under heavy braking, and before even with hi-end 2nd gen pads that never happened, I'm using ceramic pads from a local parts house, they are relatively cheap house brand pad compared to the 2nd gen hi-end pads,(120-140$) but even as a cheap 3rd gen pad (50$) I'd say my braking ability is twice as good as it was, keep in mind I have lengthened the rear proportioning rod and have the GM wheel cyl mod as well.
there are things I have bought for my truck that I've regretted, this is one improvement that was worth every dollar, so much so that I have no regrets removing perfectly good(and quite new) 2nd gen brake parts
now if there only was a cheap easy way to convert the rear drums to disc....

This is what I used:
Autozone Duralast Brake Rotor: #53012 at $63 each.
Autozone Duralast Brake Pads (Lifetime Warranty): #MKD965 at $24.
Carquest Calipers with Brackets(A1-Cardone): #CLP 18-B4891/18-B4890 @ $63 each.
Will do the rears when my rotors/pads give out. Parking brake shoe and setup should be the same as 01.5 models.
The stopping power is the difference between night and day!

here is the link that orginally got me on to this upgrade
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...upgrade&page=3
apparently it will NOT work on a 99, only the 01-02, or if you have the brake system that has double piston calipers and the rotor that slides off (like a FWD car).
I paid slightly higher from a local parts house
trw brackets one was 22 the other 63
rotors were 78$ each
Pads were 52$ for cermaic
uesd set of 3rd gen rims 200$ ended up with 8!!!
I re-used my existing calipers as they were the same as the 03-08 anyway.
I read in the above post some folks were worried about the dustshield/backing plate, I kept my orginal, it covers the rotor fine and its not worth the effort to change it (ie removing the hub assy)
if there is anyone who is local who wants to test my truck, they are welcome to try it out, I cant over state the improvement over the orginal set up
