Infinity Amp.

Gonna go out on a limb here and . About 3 months ago I went and put a aftermarket stereo in my truck that has worked great until a few days ago when it started blowing the IOD fuse a soon as I turned the radio on. Chased the thing down just now and when I clipped the power antenna wire the short went away, and now I have sound thru the door speakers but not the rear one's. From what I've read thru the search feature the power antenna wire powers up the infinity system, but I can't find a clear indicater as to where the amp is located so I can chase it further. Can anyone tell me whether on a 97 the amp is behind the dash or is it attatched to the rear speakers? My FSM has gone AWOL and am waiting on a new one. Thanks for any suggestions.

On my 97, there is an amp attached to each speaker. BTW, when I tried to power the system using the antenna wire and when I would switch from radio to cd, power was shut off to the amps. My head unit was an Alpine and I left the original Infinity speakers in until I can install my Alpine speakers too. There is another wire to use, which I am so sorry I can not remember exactly which one to help you out. Hopefully, someone will remember and point you in the right direction.

On my 97 the amp was located right in the middle of the two front seats on the floor by the fire wall. It has a plastic cover over it that has two screws to remove if I remember right. It is right behind the 4x4 shifter on the floor.

I just replaced my stock HU two days ago. I did not hook up my power antenna wire. The wire that turns on the infinity amps is the remote amp wire. Mine works just fine. The amps in my "96 are located on the front speakers. The amp on the front left speaker powers both left speakers, and the same on the right side. I bought my HU from Crutchfield, and they gave me a "master sheet" detailing how to do all the work. I also received a new wiring harness that plugs directly into the factory harness. Pretty sweet. I just wish the infinity amps sounded decent. They are garbage.

My next project is to replace the factory Infinity speakers with something decent. The speakers are absolute junk, and I hate using the stock amps attached to them. Again they are junk. To get good sound, you have to replace the entire sysyem. Remember- these systems are designed by Infinity, not built by infinity. You will never see garbage like this on the shelf with Infinity's name on it.
