How long does rear brakes last?

I've got 112,000 on my truck. I assume the rear brakes are orginal. I don't know the total history of the truck,I bought it with 82,000 miles.

The brakes have worked good, I'm just getting worried. There's no peep hole to see how much pad is left. if I take the drum off to check I might as well replace the shoes.

Any advice would be great to the life span of the shoes.

I replaced mine at nearly 200K. They were not that bad, but it was getting hard to adjust the e-brake. Now the fronts are another story....I put the 4th set on in June. I change them when they get down to about 1/8th inch or so.

I still have over half of the e-brake pedal left, would this be a good indication of how much pad I have left?

It was a good indicator on mine. Mine was almost to the floor. You might try adjusting them and see if the e-brake tightens up.
