How hard is it to convert a 3500 to a 2500?

I have been looking for a 94-98 extended cab 4x4 long bed 5 speed for awhile now and the only ones I have been able to find in my area worth looking at are all duallys. I was just wondering what all would take to put a normal bed and single rear wheel on a 3500 truck?

Bed is same, just remove the fiberglass fenders, you might have to do some body patching to cover holes or add flares to hide them.

I'm pretty sure the front axle will be different between SRW and DRW.

the front axel you will just have to remove the hub extension, not a big deal.
on the rear, i thought i remember reading the drums were a larger diameter on the drw. not sure if you would have to midify the rear any further.

the rear axle is a couple of inches wider, really not that big a deal. you will need a 3/4 ton bed, the dually beds are cut up for tire clearance beneath the fenders. the front spacers are easily removed with a wrench. and get the 3/4 ton fuel filler/neck.

Oh yea, one more thing, make sure you get a dually, not a cab and chassis model. The CC models frame is slightly different ( Wider,IIRC ).

Had a buddy put a dually bed on a 98 4X4 CC, but he had to make adapters and it never looked quite right. ( slightly larger than normal gap between bed and cab.)

My 2500 has factory overloads. I don't know how true it is, but my dealer said mine has a camper package. ( Overloads and a big rear sway bar. )

that won't work. on mine there is more than 8 bolts that hold the adapter on.

they are also cut out around the filler neck. and the axle is alot more than a couple inches wider.
hope this helps.

How many more bolts?

IIRC, I measured the rear axle width at 78" or so, WMS to WMS. Front was 79" I think.
