Hinge Pin Removal

It looks like the factory front door pins are staved in....do these need to be ground off or am I missing something?

The rebuild kit includes c-clips but I don't see them on the factory pins.

Thanks, Kurt

Hmm, both my 97's have the little push clips......... I would probably grind them off rather than bash them thru unless the deformation is very small.

The top one looks pretty flattened over, the bottom one not so bad...getting a grinder in there will be tricky, may have to go with the dremel...

Too bad you can't borrow one of those oscillating tools, it would cut flush and probably do a pretty good job.

One of these days I am gonna have to buy one just for grins.......

The little tin washer clips yield if you drive the pins out nice and hard. I used a punch and long bolt with a 2# club hammer.... I wasn't worried about chipping paint That worked ok for the top pin (I think) and I was able to get to the lower one with a 4" angle grinder with a ~2" zip disc on a steep angle.

The Dorman/Help pin kit I got doesn't have hardware for the detent pin - just the hinge pins.
