High milage on 24V when purchasing
High milage on 24V when purchasing
I have owned diesels before and now i have the opportunity to buy a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 24V Cummins Turbo Diesel. It is a automatic with four wheel drive. It is only $9,995. But there is a catch it has 298,830 for millage. I would like to do some minor performance mods to it and was wondering if that was too many miles (chip exhaust intake).
Thanks

I just bought amost the exact same truck with half the mile, twice the price. Go figure... From research I have done these motors go 800,000 plus mile regularly. So I would think you are only at a quarter of the life of the motor and should be fine
Check the fuel pressure. The engine its self will outlast the truck. However the lift pumps and injection pumps have problems. I would also ask to see maintenance records(auto tranny and such) If you are not scared of a little work here and there the truck should be fine.

check the block for the 53. get the tranny and fuel pressure tested and other than that you should be fine. If it does have a 53 block make sure it doesn't leak radiator fluid if it isn't i would guess it would be alright. mine is a 53 and has 153,000 without a problem except for changing a lift pump.
