headlights go off and on i replaced the switch now what??

my headlights keep going off and on. i replaced the multi-function switch on the steering column and that didn't fix it. when the lights go out if i pull that switch back to keep the brights and dims on they stay on and if i let it go they will shut off but sometimes stay on bright.

what else is there to do??

thanks

it does it when i am parked and driving both. it was fine after i replaced the switch as i left it on low beams but as soon as i put the high beams on then it started acting up instantly. the volts gauge doesn't move when it does it either.

If your truck has a tilt wheel, check the wires at the pivot point.

could it be the day time running light module? Mine died and left the lights on all the time. Located on the driver side fender.

Had that happen once, replaced the multi-function switch, didn't help, ended up being the actual headlight switch itself

I agree with JWFMOPAR (man that's a lot to type!). The main headlight switch. Had similar situation with a Dakota. Sometimes the dash lights would be off for a few minutes, sometimes not. Sometimes the headlight would take a dump for a moment. When it happens at 60 MPH it doesn't take long to get motivated to get it fixed!

On my truck only the high beams have stopped working. The relay looks good and switching it with another makes no difference. Otherwise, the rest of the lights work fine, although the headlight switch does feel a little rough when dimming the dash lights. Would a bad headlight switch be able to kill just the high beams?

my headlight switch ended up dying while I was out plowing snow in a parking lot at 2AM. Good thing the parking lot was well lit! I had a terrible oily burning smell when it went. Put a new $17 headlight switch in and all was fine.

ok i found one wire on the multi-function switch connector that was a little suspicious so i fixed it and that didn't help. i found a wire under the dash that was a little suspicious and that didn't fix it. my dad switched two of the fuses in that box around to see if that would make a difference two of the clear ones and that didn't even make a difference.

and i went for a drive tonight and it started doing it all over again.

any ideas??

could the light switch do it?? as it cuts out on the low or high beams both and when i pull the multi switch back they come back on and if i hold it. and some times if i let go they go off and sometimes not.
