Headlights..

Just intstalled my new exhaust and intake and was going to take it for a test drive, but saw I have no headlights.. All other running lights work and when I toggle the high-beams, the inst panel light comes on but no lights. About 2 yrs ago I lost headlights going to the cabin and was able to limp it there holding the highbeam lever on. That turned out to be the switch, all the wires were fried, so a new one from the dealer w/new harness and all was good again. Now the switch looks good(no melted wires, power to all sockets) and am wondering what to check next. Also, When I hook the plow up, the headlights work there.. Think I blew out both lights at the same time? Thanks in advance

Do you have power at the lights????

Where's the relay on this truck? The 40amp fuse is good. Checking power at the bulb, you just pull the bulb and use a test light w/the switch on? Thanks for the quick replies

The snowplow headlight harness pigybacks off your headlight plugs. Follow them back and you should see 2 small relays with 4 conductors plugging into each.

OK, found the 2 relays under the left battery box. Mine have 5 wires going to each, on one of them, two wires came out of the push on connectors(1 green, 1 red). Tommorow I'll take the battery and tray out so I can get to them and fix it. Would those relays be an auto parts item or will I need to talk to my Western dealer? BTW, I couldn't find power at any of the terminals on the relays or wires, but I could barely reach in there for good contact... I'll know more tommorow

Update, I replace both relays(high and low beam), and still no go.. There's power to the relay and out to plow wires, but not to the headlight wire. I can make the headlights go on if I cross the 2 wires, just not if hooked up properly. Any suggestions? I'm thinking these are the wrong relays..

You might have it wired wrong, check your grounds.

Similar thing happened on my ' 95. Didn't know if it was the dimmer switch or headlite switch. Turned out it was the headlight switch on the dash. Seems odd that your plow lights would work though, almost seems to be a ground problem from the truck headlites. You could try hooking a jumper wire from headlite ground directly to battery ground and see if that particular lite comes on. Easy enough to make up a jumper with a couple alligator clips and a spare piece of wire, Good luck,Rick

Here's a good link for anyone w/a Western Unimount plow..

Page 54 shows the wiring for my truck and plow. Page 55 starts w/some troubleshooting which is all very helpfull.

I thought I had everything working good and all problems fixed untill I hooked up my plow.. No headlights on the plow now..! The headlights on the truck won't switch over to the plow, thinking one of the new relays is junk..

i have the same issue, plow lights wont turn on. since i dont do much plowing anymroe, i havent bothered fixing it. I was told there is a cheap part, a relay that only controls the switch from truck to plow lights that go ot. I havent really investigated it any further than that. id like to know what you find out though.
