Handling

Alright, call me crazy, but are there any modifications I can make to my truck to help the handling out? Maybe polyurethane bushings and new shocks? I know, I know. A 7000lb 4x4 isn't meant to handle but I want mine to.

Come on now Rich,,,,,,, :
You know that Blue wouldn't be happy with a half-ton,,,,,,, maybe he can get some of those 22" rims and low profile tires,,,, then add a three foot wing on the back,,,,, some Go-Fast graphics on the side,,,,,, and a neon shift ****,,,,, yeah,,,,,, that ought to do it! ;D

Sorry BB,,,,, I just couldn't help it ;D ;D

Sounds counterintuitive, but that thing will cause some pretty evil handling tricks, especially if you hit a bump in the middle of a curve. Scary. The factory shocks are not all that great to begin with, and they usually are nearly dead by 20,000 miles or so. So new shocks would likely help quite a bit depending upon your mileage. I doubt poly bushings would help all that much on a vehicle of this weight with a fairly high center of gravity, but maybe. Tires are a consideration, too. Stickier tires would help quite a bit--when I went from Durango mud tires to Dunlop Radial RVs on my half-ton, handling improved significantly despite going to a 235 from a 285.

Re:Handling

Dads 2002 3500 ext. cab handles alot better than my 99. I think because it has larger wheels and a better stance. I don tknow. ???

Re:Handling

Don't know about teh camper package but I used to have the rear sway bar off and it handled nicely. I put it back on for kicks. I was bored. So new shocks would help some also. Other than that nothing. I know how that rear sway bar can cause some ill handling effects.

Rattlin, I don't have a shifter to put the neon shift light on. A set of 22's weighs to much. And low profile 33" tires look like crap. The three foot wing might help me out though. Add traction to the rear wheels.

Re:Handling

Raised white letter tires will also help with the handling .Also don’t forget to add a coon tail on the antenna, its guaranteed to get you 2 miles to the gallon better fuel mileage .

Re:Handling

;D ;DY'all ought to modernize and get with it. LED lights on the chrome part of the mud flaps will do the trick, they tell me. To lazy to do it myself. Running empty mine is a real squirl to drive. Thinking about going to air susp.

Re:Handling

My 03 2500 did not come with the camper pkg. Thought I was just going to tow. Well....now have a 3,000 lbs 10'6" slide in cab-over camper. I think I need to install the air springs (Ride-Rite type $400.00). What about a sway bar? Did not know that there was ANY handling problems with sway bars. Right now the truck sways a bit. Have the stock 245/70r17's, but am going to go a bit bigger either 265 or 285 (70r17). Lance Camper reccomends Rancho 9000 shocks. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. [undecided] ps Yep, I have the HD 2500. Supposedly the only difference from the 3500 (single wheel) is the $1,300 overload leaf. Same axle- brakes- etc.

Re:Handling

Got the raised white letters already. ;D

The anti-sway bar does just what it's name implies. Helps eliminate sway. It really does help tighten up the rear end. I know this much, with it unhooked, it's hard to kick the rear of the truck out. With it hooked up, sideways turns are quite easy. Not that I would do something like that.
