My tank is leaking fuel from what looks like near the pressure relief valve. It is NOT coming out the valve itself but looks like at the base of it. Started when i filled the tank all the way up it is still doing it and im down to 1/4 tank. Only does it when you shut her down after a drive then stops after a few minutes. I loosened the filler cap almost all the way so i cant see it being a pressure problem. Anyone have any ideas?

 

Got mine (tank) sitting in the floor of my shop right now...if you are sure that it's coming from the vent, then it could be the check (fluid valve) in the assembly that's not working. There appears to be a spring valve that would close in the event of a roll over...not positive, but I know that it's just not a simple straight through fitting...It could be letting the splashing fuel through...But, I would look close at the fitting next to it on the right. The double fitting going into the tank...the one on the left is the return line...you could have a little leak there and be running and settling around the vent...sounds more reasonable since it is doing it all the way to 1/4 tank...it's one of those push-on o-ring sealing fittings that Dodge uses...

 

Your right it is the fuel return leaking. However it isnt the hose or the connection leaking the metal fitting that goes into the tank, its rusted like crazy, both of them. Can these be replaced or does the entire module need replacing?

 

Not sure yours is the same as mine...I have plastic fittings on my '01...it just sits in the tank using the rubber groummet...not sure if you can re-connect the tubing on the fuel pickup line...it looks like it's shrunk on the plastic fitting...maybe someone who has a '99 can chime in if the set-up is different than an '01...

 

Your gonna have to buy a whole new sending unit, they are not cheap by the way. Ask dealer for a rebuilt one, yes they do rebuild these things because so many have gone bad. I would replace the lines as well while Your there, save Yah alot of aggravation later, if the steel fittings on the sender are rusted out, Your lines are in the same shape. I just went through all of this, have fun.

Anyone have a part number for the module? Called the dealer and gave them my Vin and they told me it was over $300 and kept calling it the pump module. I told the guy it was a diesel and it had no pump on the module he said it has the pump on the module. I know he is wrong so I need a part number please.

 

FWIW i patched mine with epoxy for repair at a later date. Seems to be holding good for about 4 months now. Same thing happened to mine, rusted up pretty good.

 

What kind of epoxy did you use? Is it working alright?

 

It was some type of 2-part weld epoxy by permatex. One of the things that it is compatable with is diesel fuel. Seems to be holding up good so far.
