has any one herd of or know how to fix the sending unit on a 94 i herd there is a fix for it but not shore if there is any help would be nice thanks

 

Start with the connector at the tank, make sure it's not oxidized\corroded\dirty - then the connector behind the plastic inner fender shield, make sure it's not oxidized\corroded\dirty - then the connector in the instrument cluster

 

The problem usually is the piivot on the arm in the sender IN the tank- very rarly the connectors- they're weather-pak's.

I have done this a couple of times- drop the tank- it's far easier than lifting the bed.

 

I just lifted my bed off to get at the top of my tank. This was easier for me because I was doing some welding on the bed. I think the tilt method would work just as well.

When I finally was able to remove the fuel sender unit from my tank I found that it was 'telescoping' up and down inside the tank. I'm not sure if it was supposed to do this, but a few washers prevented the unwanted movement, and now it's working well.

It was kinda disconcerting to pump 160$ worth of bio-diesel into the tank and find the fuel gauge stuck on 'E' for empty!

My advice would be to investigate the nature of the failure before you go and buy expensive parts from the dealership (***********)

Sean, I think the entire fuel pickup is supposed to telescope with fuel level so that fuel isn't being picked up from the bottom of the tank.

If you decide to replace the sender it is availible separately from the dealer for around $50. Don't let them try to sell you the entire module for $300.

 

I had gone through several fuel senders. They seemed to only last about 50k for me. I quit putting them in after the 2nd one and drove by mileage for about 100k then decided it was time to fix it right. I went with a capacitance type sender instead of the stocker. Yeah Sean, the sending module is supposed to telescope! The problem of the sending unit is the float pivot- read the link in my last post.
The only trouble relating to the telescoping is where then slots are can wear through- then use washers to restore the telescoping ability.

 

Does anyone know if it is possible to repair the feed and return lines on the sending unit of a 97 3500 Cummins, would be great after pricing a replacement from Dodge.

Yep, your lines are rotted at the top of the module, get yourself a Vulcan Draw straw.......
