Fuel guage

I was wondering if anyone has had this happen to their truck. I have been driving and driving and the fuel guage doesn't seem to be correct. This has been going on for about a year now, so today as I was on my way home at about 1/2 reading on my guage I stopped and filled her to the top. I have been just adding $20 here and $50 there and mostly keeping the tank close to full. This last while I haven't been able to keep it full and the level was down to half. I started to fill and it kept going and going till it stopped at 114 litres ( about 30 us gallons ). My over head said that distance to empty was 275 miles.
Don't these trucks have about a 130 litre ( 34 gallon us ) tank. I almost ran out of fuel at 1/2 on the guage. When I left the pump the hand was back on the full, but I have noticed that it stays full for a long time before the hand starts to fall ( 350 miles at least ) .
Anyone seen this before and what is the fix?

Yep, and the fix is to replace the sender.

Not bad 65 bucks or so at the dealer, lift the bed pull the module, and replace the sender.

Mine does the same thing, 1/2 tank is 1/4 tank or less. I have put in 28-29 gal at 1/2. The guy I got it from said don't go to 1/4 you will be walking. I just drive it 350 miles or so and fill it.

Yes guys that is mine, I would like to fix it but taking the bed off seems like a lot of work. I can just remember to keep it on the full side I guess, stays there along time anyway. Glad to know I'm not the only one having that issue, thanks for the depots. P. S. Is it hard to remove the box?

Depends on how rusty things are, Also removing the box you will need help. Tank removal is a one man job. Just filling it up at 1/2 tank is free.

Tank removal really isn't all that bad, But really easier for me to unbolt and just hoist up the front of the bed to pull the sending unit. An afternoons work. Replace the sender and the peace of mind is worth it all. I've had 3 of these trucks with the problem. Now I just assume it will have to be done when I look at buying one. But truthfully, i am glad I had to on all three as they all had poor filter screens that needed repair. Love J&B Weld!

You don't have to remove the bed. Remove the bolts on the tank side and loosen the other side then tilt the bed and support it. you can get to it that way.
