fuel gauge/tank (98)

Ive read that the tank is 36 gallons....ok, I thought it was 35. The problem is that my low fuel light comes on, the gauge is right on the high side of the red, I mean it looks empty. I rarely ever put in more then 25 gallons! I ve driven 60 miles holding my breath in the desert at 2 am....pulling my trailer thinking man I need a station bad, finally get to one and put in 27.5 gallons.

What can be done? Is it really 36 gallons? I ve been thinking about adding an aux tank for a long time but I should atleast try to use what I have.

No it's actually 34 gallons..and when that light comes on, you have 6 gallons left.I wouldn't go more than maybe 100 highway miles after the ding..

I didn't figure out for about a year that the tank was 34-36 gallons, i have driven it flat on empty and then filled up 22 gallons, the most I have ever put in is 23 gallons. stupid fuel guage.

It might not be the gauge but the sump in the tank might not be right on the bottom screwing up the gauge reading. My truck was the same way it would be on empty and only take 25 gallons. When i changed the sump it was about 6" from the bottom. I put mine about 3/4" from the bottom and its pretty acurate.

I wish that was the case with my truck. When the gauge hits 1/2 it takes 25 galons to fill it up.
