fuel gauge
fuel gauge
when i bought my 97 the fuel gauge read 1/4 full all the time, then would drop from there once the fuel level dropped enough and work like normal until the fuel light came on.. then i went down a bumpy road with a full tank of fuel and the gauge started reading full..i thought sweet, my gauge is working! but it only worked untill roughly 5/8 full and stop..
so i bought a new sending unit from dodge, lifted the box and put it in.. i read that the pin holding the float on usually gets sloppy and i found it odd that mine wasnt, but i put the new unit in anyway only to find the same problem as before..
i put the sending unit in the tank the exact same way i took it out, with the fuel lines pointing to the drivers side, i didnt even think to look at the direction the arm moved because i didnt expect that to be a problem.. my question is, do the fuel lines point towards the drivers side, as well as the electrical plug? im just wondering if that could be the problem before i go lifting the box off again..
thanks

Cant say for sure which way the lines point but on my 01 tank there is a mark on the module and one on the tank that are supposed to line up so that the float arm is in the right position within the tank. Thinking about it I think my lines do point to the drivers side, at least generally.
They point towards the frame rail, which would be the drivers side.
I am pretty sure it is keyed so you can't put it in wrong, but it has been a couple of years now since I last had one down.
If you did not put that stupid red plastic lock back, you might be able to remove the connector and check the gauge operation out by grounding it.

I went with a sender from these people so the sender would stay fixed ~$62 delivered. It can be confused if I'm working on the truck & turning the key off & on. Mostly it is close enough but then, I fill at 1/2 a tank. They have sold several for Rams & should have the specs.

i didnt see a keyed place to lock it in position, but there may have been one.. the red thing was missing to start with so its still not there.. i will have to take the box off again and mess with it, this time i will pay more attention.. thanks guys
