fuel gauge
fuel gauge
my grandpa has a 96 dodge 2500 laramie with the 12 valve 4x4 and the tranny with the lock up convertor(i dont know which model 47rh?) anyways, his gauge has been taken to the dealer and replaced twiced and the dang thing still doesnt work. it gets reading but is very inaccurate; its almost as if the float is screwed up or something. my question is has anyone else experienced this porlbem and if so what is the usual culprit of this weird reading? thank you, austin
Well, I could be as simple as the float hanging up on the side of the tank to bad connection or wire somewhere between the sending unit and the gauge.
The float should be somewhat centered in the tank. If you install it to far left or right, it can rub on the inside wall of the tank causing erratic readings.

My truck acts up below the 1/4-tank area and reads erratically. I've been running Lucas additive in the fuel and it's seems to be getting better. I know the Lucas additive helped the gauge accuracy in my old Powerstroke as well. Not that it's the cure, but it seems to help clean the sending unit and help it read better.
