fuel gage pegged

Filled up Sunday have drove 185 miles and the gage has not moved. I have completed the instrument cluster self test all gages work, checked all connections and swerved the truck back and fourth to see if the float was stuck. Nothing has changed the needle.

any suggestions?

could be a electrical or mechanical failure, but it has happened to me 4 times. I just kept an eye on my odometer, and kept driving. Eventually it dropped back down each time. Possibly the float was ketting stuck on top somehow.

I agree with jarhead, to address the mechanical try topping off the tank again to bust the float loose (short of dropping the tank). as for electrical a short in the wire to the sending unit (to ground) would produce the same results, check for broken/pinched wire possibly along the frame rail and check continuity of wire. also you need to rule out a faulty gauge. Hopefully you will find an easy fix

Sometimes the float in the tank sticks.

Try whacking the side / bottom of the tank with a rubber mallet.
Don't hammer on it like you're trying to kill it....... just a couple of light whacks to bump the float arm loose.

What Shovelhead said.
Lying on your back and kicking works too.
From now on only fill your tank to the second automatic shutoff.
Filling to the brim is what causes it to stick.

I used a rubber mallet banged on the tank and it fixed the problem.
