Fuel gauge needle pegged itself to past empty right before my eyes !

Hello boys. I did a search here and didnt find anything so here goes...

My fuel gauge needle is pegged to past empty and the light is on. Whats weird is I had just started the truck and was looking at the gauge and saw that I had roughly a half tank fuel in it when BLOOP ! I heard a chime and the gauge needle swept all the way to the left and pegged itself below empty. Turned the truck off, restarted it and it didnt even move.

Any eye-dee-ers ?? Thanks in advance

Oh, and if it matters, the overhead console meter says ---- for distance to empty, or basicly you have no fuel left pal !

Maybe your fuel was siphoned out. Have you refueled since then? If so, how much did it take?

I ask, because it seems that their is a bit of memory to the circuitry. For instance, If I park nose out in my steep driveway, the needle says I have less fuel than I do for a very long time after driving on level ground. Probably 5 mins or so until it reflects a more accurate fuel level.

If I have a quarter tank left and I park nose out in my driveway, the fuel light will be illuminated in the morning when I leave for work and the guage will read less than an 1/8 of a tank. 5 mins later, it corrects itself.

I busted my float and fuel sending unit when I was not so gentle with my air dog instal... mine is doing almost the same thing... could be that. I reccomend pulling the bed vice dropping the tank...

First, I would get in the driver side rear wheel well, and check to make sure that your electrical connection on the top of the tank has not come unplugged. I know you can see it and touch it from the wheel well on mine...

Since we are talking about fuel gauges maybe someone has an idea why mine rarely reads completely full after a fill up ,it is usually just below the full line on the gauge, but after you turn the truck off for awhile and then re-start it ,the gauge is now pegged in the full direction.

Either a gauge cluster issue or a tank sending unit I bet or out of fuel.Haven't heard of tank sending unit issues on 3rd gens but 1st and 2nds were plagued with with sending unit failures.

Have you done tyhe vent mod yet?
If not it's a little hard to really fill the tank completely, ity takes about 10 minutes just trickling the fuel in.
I've done the mod, 200 km after filling up my gauge is still peggeg to FULL.

with all the crazies out these days, I would check your tank for any holes in the bottom first. really hope thats not the case though.

Come on guys, reread his post. He was in the truck, with it running and the gauge fell from the half tank mark to below empty.
Whats weird is I had just started the truck and was looking at the gauge and saw that I had roughly a half tank fuel in it when BLOOP ! I heard a chime and the gauge needle swept all the way to the left and pegged itself below empty.

check and see if maybe there is a fuse that controls the sending unit it sounds like the sender has gone bad or it has lost power. if it was at half tank that is what was in the tank when the failure happened.

Exclamation

Thank you for the replies so far gentlemen !

Also
last night saw that all of my left rear lights are out ( both dually fender flare lights, tail light running light, and tailgate trailering light )

??

This is weird !

And yes, I do have plenty of fuel in the tank, I also filled up last night with no change in the needle or gauge.

Here's what my codes are. Looks like the first 2 are probably unrelated :

0633 - Security Key not programmed ECM / TCM
0602 - Control Module Programming Error ( maybe because of my Predator ? )
0463 - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Imput
0462 - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Low Imput

Anybody know what this means, or is going to mean ? Thanks
