front wheel bearing/hub 360$!

I thought I was getting the beggining of the DW and as I was installing some lukes links I found a bad front rt wheel bearing. I gave a call to friend that owns a driveline shop cause pulling the hub is a serious pita. He said sure, then he found out that no dealer on the west coast has one.....it has to be shipped from the east coast? and is 360$!

Any other outlets for one? Im guessing they dont go out that often.

Better than what I paid. I got mine straight from the dealer (the one's from napa ain't worth a hoot) and it cost me $425 after tax.

360 is the driveline shops cost from the dealer. I do work on the owners truck (turbo system and tuning pcm's etc) so I get actual cost supposedly.

I'd just get one from an auto parts store. I talked to Napa and they said they sell a bunch of them and haven't had any problems. Of course a salesman will tell you anything, but I wasn't even in the market for one, I was just making conversation with a guy that bought one.

I got an aftermarket one for two hundred and something awhile back. Its for the 4x4 version. You can remove the existing hub yourself with some creative placement of a socket extension and turning the steering wheel with the hydraulics to assist in pushing on one of the knuckle bolts.

Im not sure on the mfr but I remember seeing a timken bearing in there somewhere. These things can be ridiculously expensive. and its a non-serviceable part.
I got it from a local autozone or advanced auto. Pretty hard to get out until infidel shared his hydraulic trick with me. I did that and it popped right out of the knuckle. Be careful of pulling the axle shafts out since you can damage the seals.

I can't tell if you have a 2500 or a 3500 or a dually.
Also need to know if it has front ABS or not.

You won't need to pull the axleshafts, unless you want to replace the u-joints also. Once you've removed the big hub nut, the unit bearing will slide off the axle splines. HTH

Just found out this weekend that EMS offroad is building his own hub conversion kit for our front axle. I don't have the sale paper in front of me, but I think his standard kit was somewhere in the neighborhood of $800 (which is darn near the price of 2 new unit bearings). Its not on the site yet, but he had an example of it at the show I attended this weekend. Might be worth a phone call. http://www.emsoffroad.com/index1.htm
