For rear hooks, I just welded a big hook to a hitch. That way, when I need it I can throw it into my receiver, and take it off when I don't need it. I know quite a few guys take the ball off the hitch and stick a clevis through the hole.

And, for the love of god, don't hook the towstrap around the ball!! A 20,000 strap will tear apart a 5 or 6 k rated ball. and send it off like a rocket. A solid 2" round chunk of steel rocket.

Makes sense, I guess, if you buy a cheap hitch ball..... but even my small 1-7/8" ball is rated at 10,000 lbs.

I've seen it happen. 2" ball right through the stuck trucks windshield, directly between the driver and his wife. 12" away from being a funeral.
