Ive seen some trucks with factory tow hooks. Anyone have a picture of them?

I was looking at my '81 chevy 4x4 stock hooks, and see that the old chevy frame metal is about 3 times thicker than my dodge. The dodge is a boxed frame for strength but the metal thickness wont be strong enough and im sure will bend or pull out with a hook just attached through one side of the steel.

Maybe a fabricated mount that bolts several places would work. I might have to fabricate my own hook and mount. I still dont think it will be as strong as my chevy.

My truck has factory front tow hooks and I thought they were amazingly strong. I recently lost the tranny and had to get it towed. A buddy of mine has a dump truck and equipment trailer so we went to rescue it from the side of the highway. We loaded his mini excavator in the dump truck in case we had any problems! When we got the truck on the trailer we realized the huge steel ramps on back of the trailer would not fold up because the truck hung over too far. So to get them closed we did the unthinkable....... We slung a chain around the tow hooks, picked the whole front of the truck up with the excavator and pulled it forward over the tongue untill the ramps folded back. Then we pushed it back till it was on the trailer again and set it back down. I wish I had pictures because it was frickin hillarious. Believe it or not the hooks barely bent upward. Not enough to even worry about. Not that I would suggest doing this very often, but they are obviously pretty stout to hold that weight in the air.

Anyway thought I would share that, If you want I get some pics of mine and email them to ya as I don't know how or if I can post pics here.

I had to do something similar. I was trying to drive out of a ditch that was nothing but mud. When I hit the other side of the ditch it was straight up and down. It stopped me dead in my tracks. Had to call my wife to come get me. Went home got the loader,
and drove back to my pickup with my wife telling me I'm an idiot the whole way. Hooked a chain to the one tow hook I could see and picked the front up tell it was level with the road and started pulling it up and out. The hook bent upward about .25-.5". I'd say they are pretty tuff.

I'd say they are good enough IF you are doing a slow steady pull, as in the two examples.

I'd be afraid of them tho if you were being snatched out like usually happens 4 wheeling.

The shock loading when that happens is well over 6 times the weight of the truck doing the snatching, as opposed to a slow steady pull, which will be equal to the weight of the truck pulling.
