Are front hubs interchangeable between the years?

Will a front hub from a 1998-99 Dodge Ram 2500 with 4wd and 4-wheel ABS fit my 1996 4x4 truck with 4-wheel ABS?

Where's the best place to get them?

Any brands to watch out for?

Also, once you get the old hub and rotor assembly off, how hard is it to separate the rotor from the hub? What's the hardest part in changing hubs?

Thanks.

don't if they'll fit..

the hardest part is getting them off. once off its easy to get the rotor off..just bang out all the wheel studs. once out the rotor will fall off..now for putting it back together..you'll want a press. especially if you are using a new hub.

Pretty sure the tone ring sensor for the ABS is totally different on the '94-'96.
I know the price jump from '96 to '97 is substantial.

That's what I was afraid of. Front hubs for a '96 with 4-wheel abs seem to be rare. Unless... The tone ring is not part of the hub on 1996 models. I'll have to take a look.

You mean a press for getting the rotor and hub back together with the wheel studs right? Once you get the old hub off the axle, the new one should slide on easily right?

yep..the hub should slide back on..be sure to use some antiseeze for the next time..you'll be glad you did..I used some and have been glad since..I first replaced the rotor only..then I needed to replace the left hub( bearing gone)..after removing the nuts it almost fell apart in my hands. unlike the first time..I have to beat the ...MESS!!..the polite word..out the them. at the time I didn't care about the rotors, I was replacing them anyway.

you need a press to put a new hub with studs and rotor..
when I change my hub I tried to get by without a press, but ended up by taking them to a local shop for pressing.

I never use a press for the studs even though I have one.
A copper headed 4# hand sledge is faster.

This has me baffled.. Apparently no one sells a hub for a 1996 Ram 2500 with front ABS? It's like they never even offered 4-wheel ABS for my year. Did I get a special edition truck?

By looking under my truck, I can't tell if the tone rings are part of the hub or not.

And if I end up doing this, I will definitely use anti-seize.

Both my '95s have 4W ABS.
Never had to replace the bearings on the 2wd but on the 4wd I bought them at Napa.

Thanks, I just checked and their website says the hubs are for "w/o abs."

I'll check Napa.

Do you remember if the tone ring was part of the hub on your 4wd?

It's been at least 13 years ago but I don't think it was on my 4wd.
If it wasn't 12f with a foot of snow on the ground I crawl under and look.
Who knows, I might anyway, you've got me wondering.
