Feeling guilty about burnouts
Feeling guilty about burnouts
Hey everybody, just wanted to express my guilt about doing two burnouts in my 97. I got one of those "wild hairs" that just itched really bad and took a couple of burnouts to scratch. It was pretty fun hearing the Cummins spool up while I powerbraked it. The brakes wouldn't hold it anynmore and then the tires went to hollering in submission! Left rubber for about 60 feet with two strips. I was impressed for a 6600 lb truck. I did it again with the same results with my neighbor watching. He was laughing and later my wife said she could hear me up at the house (about 1/4 mile away) and knew that I probably was laughing in the truck. She knows me pretty good.
Afterwards, I felt and still feel pretty guilty about abusing the truck and tires, and transmission like that. I checked the fluids, they were ok. I guess I won't be doing it anymore. Too much risk, I should know from my high school days what it costs to do that kind of stuff. I just don't know what got in me. I guess all of the pictures I have seen of diesels doing burnouts with black and tire smoke mixed was just too much temptation.
Just thought some of you would get a kick out of this. I am usually very conservative on everything.

In all fairness, I haven't weighed the 97. The 91 weighs about 6100 with me in it, I weigh 160. Your truck weighs 8200 lbs? That would leave only 400 lbs carrying capacity on my truck. My GVWR is 8800.

Unless the scale was bad it was 8200lbs. even. I can't imagine that being the case as it was a state scale on the Redwood Highway in southern Oregon. It weighs one axle at a time and the front came in at 4400 and the rear at 3800. I thought it was heavy too.
Feel bad about burnouts? Hmm. I just did one in the movie parking lot, one coming out of the parking lot, one turning right at a stop sign, and one at a stop sign. I guess I should go to confession.
Your trucks alright. I promise. It needs a little blowing out every now and then.

I had some cruddy BFG mud terrains on the rear that needed to be tossed for some ATs to match the rest of the rig.. So i built some boost, and letterrip in second gear.. GOSH DARN!!

I did one tonight too. I dont know what got into me either. I only did it for about 20ft though.
TxDiesel007, they way I do it with mine is I put my right foot side ways so my heel is on the brake and my toe is on the go pedal, then I start letting the clutch out.

I might not of done mine on pavement but boy I was have fun doing cookies with mine in the dirt! Sure changed the color of the paint on mine fast with all the dust I was kicking up! I had to stop I couldn't see where is was going any longer...
What is this.....the burn out confessional thread?!?!
Ok then......."Forgive me father for I have sinned..............."
Seriously though, my 94 reg. cab SLT Laramie 4x4 weighs 6680 lb with a full tank of fuel and me (200 lbs) in it......the truck has no add ons or extra weight.

I take my son down to the end of the paved cul de sac and let he rip- my little guy just
and
, while those Goodyears howl. Every now and again he and I will do a smokey burnout in the driveway, but boy oh boy does Mamma get mad at us
, but she gets over it when "her" little boy gets out of the truck with a smile from ear to ear!!!
