Fair price for a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Club Cab

Hi guys,

I'm looking at a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Club Cab Diesel with 5 spd. The truck is very very clean with zero rust (west coast truck). It's a 2 owner truck and has 128,000 miles. I understand this to be low miles for this truck/drivetrain.

I've been looking for a 2nd generation Cummins Dodge for a while and understand that these trucks are in demand and go for a premium. This is by far the nicest one I've seen. The under-body looks brand new.

My question is what is a fair price for this rig? It's at a dealer and they're asking $15,000. This sounds a little high to me but what do you guys think? I'm not looking to make a steal, just to better understand what I should offer.

Thanks.

You might be better off posting this in the 2nd gen forum. Still, that sounds typical from a dealer. I'd think more like $12,000 from a dealer would be more realistic.

I would say it is worth 8-9k tops, several good ones in the classifieds here for alot less.

4x4? Still high. Might cost another 1000$ or more when you get it home. It is used and 15 years old.

10-12K

I know that's what it would take to get Greenie from me.......

Don't forget, financing a truck that old is tough, so it eliminates a lot of potential buyers.

Typical dealer rip off !!!

As justinsdad stated 8-9k would be more realistic.

I bought my 96 ext 4x4 from the original owner garage kept dry west climate with 125k on it 3 years ago for $6900 this is a real world sale.

At the time it was a steal for a very nice unmolested clean straight truck this guy even had clear carpet runner over the factory floor mats and i would say it would still be a very good buy today. Tell the dealer you want to see exactly what they gave for the truck and then offer them $500 more to process the paper work

I'd go in with cash and make a low offer of say 8-9grand. If they scoff, turn for the door and walk out.

They'll chase you down.

Pretty much echoing what everyone else says but 15k is absurd. I can't see it being worth more than 10k and even that I would consider high. 8k-9k is what I would expect realistically.

Good Luck with the dealer.

$15k is way out of line.
I only paid $22k for my 4wd '95 when it was brand new.
It was top of the line, the dealer even sent it out to Warn to customize with rims, running boards and fender flares.
Granted it was the last '95 they had on a lot of '96s.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm going to go look at the truck and take $10,000 cash with me and see if I can separate him from his truck. I'll let you know what he says.
