Factory tow hitch

I just thought i would post this since i found out about it the round about way. I have a 1998.5 Ram 2500 4x4, and I had the factory hitch replaced today on a recall. Seems they crack around the brackets. Now when the dealer told me this i looked confused and promptly crawled under my truck to look right there in the parking lot. Guess what, the brackets were cracking and the one rear pass side was almost broken through. I wanted to spread the word since i would of had my boat hooked up and opulling down the road with the possibility of serious failure!!

There was a realy cool link to a site for recalls a while ago, all you had to do was enter the last eight didgits of your VIN and it would tell you if there was any. However that was a couple of days ago so for me Im sure someone will chime in with it ..... I know my 98.5 had it but I cant say about 97

Mine was welded to the frame by the P/O because of the cracking...

Now the pin hole is elongated slightly..

I did the vin search with mine and it looks like it is N/A. My hitch is held on with four bolts so I gues they changed somewere between 98.5 and 02.

Looks like mine is on the recall list, and has not been serviced. What do I need to do, print off the PDF form and take it to the dealership ?

Thanks, Clint

I just asked while I was standing there getting the wife's Jeep fixed(bad light bar) if there wer any unfinished recalls. I couldn't believe the way it was cracking. I have no idea how far the recall runs, I just thought I would pass on the information hopefully to save someone a real bad time. I saw the posted pictures from another member and I thought I was looking at my truck as well. At least i got a new hitch out of the deal and they were very cooperative. I must say though that all my dealing this this dealer in Smokey Point have been positive, since most of the time it has been a very awful experience.

Not sure what the VIN # is on my dad's truck so I don't know if there is a recall on it or not. He has a 01, and the hitch cracked on it was only hanging by part of one side. Almost lost the trailer he was pulling, but was able to get pulled over before anything serious happened. We just replaced it ourselves, but if you have an 01 you may want to check yours out too.
