Everyone With FASS With an Inline Filter (FF5079), Check This Out
So I'm doing every little maintenance thing I can think of on my '01 CTD to freshen it up. All fluids, filters, high wear parts, etc... Well I thought it would be best to do the inline filter on my FASS 95 pump, Cummins Filtration PN FF5079 (I think), for giggles.
When I got the old one out I wanted to take a look inside and see how bad it was. It seems these aren't changed very often. So I took a hacksaw down the middle.
Take a look for yourself. This thing was rough! The small metal chips are from the saw so don't mind them. I checked the maintenance logs and this filter has 32,000 miles on it. I'll probably try to change this every 15k to help protect the FASS. Cheap insurance for $8 a pop and 10 minutes.

I'm pretty sure its a 140 micron filter. Do a search and there are like a bazillion different part numbers for these. Many auto parts stores carry the same one. I think when I first did it I searched "FASS filter"

yeah i was losing intermittently losing fuel pressure on my ddrp... noticed it was down a few pounds at times... replaced that little sucker and back to 17 at idle....
there are some pictures that show it as an actual screen though... might be better for pressures if it wasn't this crappy folded paper.

Have you cut a new one in half for comparison?
When I dropped my tank to change the fuel sender, I was surprised at how clean it was inside, no gunk, dirt or anything really, just fuel.

Buddy of mine might have set a record, 82k miles on the stock fuel filter that came with a new truck.
Started losing power, just him discovering that it had a fuel filter that needs to be changed occasionally was all it needed to get back to normal.

I had a problem with mine a while ago. See the silicone that seals where the two halves are rolled together. Mine started to self destruct. Since it was before my FASS pump those little bits got sucked into the gears and stopped the pump dead.
