Sport Headlight Installed

I did the sport light conversion on my 1998.5 dually..did not have to cut for clearance, just bolted right up. I used the RIK-RAM harness construction kit. The only downside I see is that my overhead console readings dim slightly when bright lights are on. The relays are wired directly from the battery, battery voltage is at 13.3. Has anybody else noticed this?

also, as for the harness, if you have basic soldering skills, then just build your own. some of the parts are hard to find, but it would be cheaper than this place if you can't get a hold of daniel stern's kit. i am currently in the process of gathering parts and will build the harness sometime soon.

here is the wiring diagram i will be following:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...2&d=1187998693
the diagram shows that only the lows on the 9007 bulbs will light up, but only two more wires are needed to activate the inner lows if needed. the harness is actually 2 separate pieces which are identical (one for each side). for more info/diagrams see daniel sterns site in the 'relays' section under the 'tech' category. also, the suvlights link has lots of good info in the harnesses products section . . .

hope this helps,
jason
Great info Jason, many thanks. It looks as if the Ebay thing is not going to work so Cross Canada is looking good if a little? expensive.
The main reason for going to Danial Stern was to get the male plugs to put in the existing headlamp sockets. I did not know SUV LIghts had them. I would much rather make up my own looms.
Do you happen to know which male plug I would need to order to plug into the existing single bulb sockets on my 2000? I get pretty confused with all the different names and types

Having trouble with my setup. I installed the sport light kit on my 01 from Ebay. Worked great for awhile, than relays started to stick on. I tried to follow the Daniel Stern harness but mine has an extra box,not a relay. I am thinking it is for the day time running lights. I made a harness from DanielStern site with my plugs and new relays. I left out the extra box,now my lights turn on as soon as i plug everything in. Even when light switch is off and key shut off. I gave up and plugged only one bulb in on each side for now with original harness. It is still brigter than the old lens. Anyone else have issues with the day time running lights on there conversions?

As soon as you add relay harnesses or brighter bulbs you need to disable the DRLs. With quad bulbs, you are now effectively drawing twice the current through the high beam circuit. These OEM DRL modules don't like that and you are looking for a fire by asking the module to power all those bulbs.

Additionally, I don't know what relays you are using, but there is a great variance in quality between brands. I bought my relay harness from Summit, and it came with some cheap nasty Chinese relays. Sure enough, the relays started acting up within a year. They had a strange footprint I couldn't match up, so I just ended up making jumper wires to adapt to common ISO relays.

I am going to be ordering the male and female plugs from here. This guy builds them himself, they are high wattage ready (high heat resistant), and you get to choose what wire gauge you want if you order with pigtails. He is in the states somewhere. If you email him and ask about shipping to Canada, you can get him to ship via USPS and he will refund you the difference in shipping as default is UPS (I think). Just email him and ask if you are interested . . .

The sockets you need are 9004/9007 sockets. They are physically identical. The only difference is the configuration of the high.low.negative wiring. The male plugs need to be wired for 9004 bulbs to plug into the factory harness. You also need 2 of each 9004/9007 female plugs. This makes 6 plugs total (4 female, 2 male).

not sure what you mean by 'box'. The DRL module is found on the driver fender under the brake fluid reservoir. Unplug it and it should solve your problem. Although, when you unlpug it you will have issues with your brights indicator light. This issue can be fixed with a jumper wire in the male end of the DRL module. Do a search on here and you will find the fix if you look deep enough. I no longer have the info . . .

Dang, you can't take the CAT off your exhaust? I took mine off a few days after I bought it. I now get 27 mpg hwy with my 96 5 speed. They are very restrictive.
