The stock headlight switch triggers the relays which in turn provide a short path over heavy gauge wire from the batteries to the Sport Headlight assemblies I installed.

The reason to use them is that the stock truck has very small wiring and so the bulbs get a much reduced voltage compared to what a relay will supply. This means much brighter headlights. The non-Sport trucks need extra wiring for the additional bulbs so this is a great time to add relays for everything.

Also, the stock switches aren't very good and frequently burn up. When you add the relays the stock switch only has to trip the relay, since the load on it is so small the switch has a long lifespan.

Daniel Stern explains it better than I can here: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...ys/relays.html
There is a lot of information on his site and I used his relay kit for my upgrade. Its the RIK-RAM kit on his site.

Read the whole thread for details regarding my installation. The eBay store I used was Headlights Depot, I believe on the auction they were called Euro Sport but they are basically just Sport Headlights reproductions with slightly clearer lenses.

They were made by a Taiwan company called Eagle Eyes, I've been very happy with the quality. No leaks and with the relays the difference in lighting is huge.

Here is the exact head light assemblies I installed:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-...Q5fAccessories

The one's I received had Phillips Vision Plus bulbs already installed. These are one of the best available according to Daniel Stern.

Hi guys, anyone know if Danial Stern is still in business. I have tried to email them through their web site but it keeps coming back un-deliverable. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm trying to buy his RIK-RAM kit to convert my headlamps to the sport models ( I hope?) I've tried to buy them from Headlamp Depot on Ebay for delivery to a guy in the US who will bring them up here on his next visit BUT, because I'm a Canadian registered Ebay user it won't accept my order AND he won't answer my emails asking for a work around the problem

hey,

look here for the sport lights if the ebay thing doesn't work out for ya. prices are in CDN dollars. if the link doesn't work - the just google 'cross canada' then make sure you are on the homepage and enter as a 'guest'. then just navigate thru the search criteria to find your applicable truck info. once you get there (via the link or searching on your own) then scroll down to part number 330-151 - these are the sport light assemblies.

also, as for the harness, if you have basic soldering skills, then just build your own. some of the parts are hard to find, but it would be cheaper than this place if you can't get a hold of daniel stern's kit. i am currently in the process of gathering parts and will build the harness sometime soon.

here is the wiring diagram i will be following:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...2&d=1187998693
the diagram shows that only the lows on the 9007 bulbs will light up, but only two more wires are needed to activate the inner lows if needed. the harness is actually 2 separate pieces which are identical (one for each side). for more info/diagrams see daniel sterns site in the 'relays' section under the 'tech' category. also, the suvlights link has lots of good info in the harnesses products section . . .

hope this helps,
jason
