DRW to SRW conversion

So I am doing the research to do this to my 96 3500. I have a set of wheels and tires. and I am looking to yank the fenders off for now until i have time to go pick up a bed.

I have seen pics that looks like once you remove the dually fenders there is a fuel door in the regular bed. My question to anybody who has done this conversion is that true or is this picture of a bed someone has added the door to?

A temporary thing but I would hate to get all the way down to pulling off the fenders only to find that I now have to figure out how to attach the fuel filler to something that doesnt exist.

Thoughts?

The rear axle spindle width should be different. Not sure how that will affect going from dually rims to single rims.
