is the dealer screwing me
I moved this topic thought it would fit in better here.
i took my 95 in the other day because the brakes went completly out. last time this happened i took it to a brake shop and they said it was the dump valve and that fixed it. 8 months later it did it again so i took it to the dealer first they said it was the abs contoller so they put that on, but now they said they found a broken line but i never noticed any fluid anywhere and wasn't losing any. anyway when i ask them since it was a broken line then i don't need the abs controller, but they said they needed the abs controller to reset the abs and parking break light. are they taking me for a ride, shouldn't there be a way to reset it without the abs controller. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like they are just trying to get more money out of you. I wouldn't think that you would need a new abs controller just to rest the lights. Ask them if there is another reason for the new controller, otherwise I wouldn't get it. I not sure though, but it just doesn't make sense.

I have since added one ton rear cylinders off a chev 30mm and carbon front pads. If I did not have any brakes I would make sure I was getting pressure. Perhaps a good inspection of all of the system including the hoses and steel lines. If you dont have any luck and the rear shoes are in good shape and adjusted up then prehaps you could install a gauge and check the pressure. The master cylinder is not by- passing?
The 95 imop is still not as good as I would like but it is better than what it was when it first bought it. good luck Jim
The ABS warning light stays on for 50 on/off key cycles even if the problem that caused the warning is fixed. It's DC way of making sure an all important brake problem is taken care of. It can also be reset with a scan tool.
Actually Bill on a 95 with RWAL (which he has) it will reset because the system is tested at every key cycle and has no code storage capability. If the fault is detected all the time the light will stay on, if not, it would clear and then come on only when the fault was detected again. Back in those days we had to make it clear to customers with intermittant probs to bring the truck in when the light came on and not to shut it off so we could ground the wire and count the flashes. Halerazor is picking up his truck and hopefully we'll see what can be done with it.
I may be wrong here but since this fix wasnt under warranty, I thought that the dealer has to let the costomer know ahead of time what the problem is and give them the option to fix or take home. If the work is done without the costomers consent then to bad for the dealer. Sure there might be a shop time charge for the estimate. What if they told you all your brakes were bad and they went ahead and changed them to? If your didnt authorize this work then tell them your going to turn them into the Bureau Of Automotive Repair.
I would guess he authorized the controller as that was the diagnosis/estimate. My understanding is teh shop has to stay within 10% of estimate or contact the customer for authorization.
i picked it up today. i asked the guy why he couldn't reset the lights without it and he said they couldn't communicate with it. As for the brake lines i tolg him i never seen the busted line and wasn't losing fluid. he said they didn't notice it till they were done working on it and backed it out and noticed the puddle underneath. i said "so i have to pay for something you guys messed up". then he said it would have happened when i left the shop anyway. he said hes been working on dodges since 82 and knows what he is doing.when i asked for the odl parts they just happen to throw them away yesterday. by then i figured i wasn't getting anywhere so i said " just give me my truck and i'm never coming back because you guys are a bunch of crooks.heres the dealer i went to we don't name names here, read the rules i recommend no one takes their truck there.
Might want to write your opinion here to warn others

I believe it is the law that if they cannot produce your old parts that were replaced, you do not have to pay for the repair.
The "we threw them away" excuse does not get it.
Correct me if I am wrong.
