daytime running lights won't turn off

i have a '96 cummins that the daytime running lights won't turn off on.acually,i'm not even sure if it is the daytime's(canada)or high beams,as the high beam indicator is lit up,and it is not with the daytime's normally.the tail lights and running light are not staying on,so that's what had me thinking it could be the daytime's
i searched, but came up with nothing but the normal headlight switch issues.has anyone had this happen?

any input would be great,thanks
craig

It's the DRL module - those things always fail. It is a part that is specific for Canada. When it fails, it often leaves the lights on. Sometimes it burns down your truck down http://scc.lexum.umontreal.ca/en/200...2005scc28.html.

I had one fail, leave the lights on - I replaced it with one from a scrapyard.
That one failed shortly thereafter. I unplugged the module, and left it that way.

The only thing you lose are DRL's and the highbeam indicator. The highbeam indicator can be regained by connecting the appropriate wires (I should really check this out).

I think I might install an aftermarket DRL module ($25 from Can Tire *shrug*).

Oh, and the stupid thing is mounted under the hood on your D/S wheel fender. It has one connector going to it.

Yea what ScottN said. Unplug the module on the drivers front fender and the headlights will go out. Does not hurt anything EXCEPT your highbeam indicator will no longer work (and obviously the DRL).

I have picture in my gallery of the jumper for my Hi beam indicator...

My DRL started blinking my lights, I was wondering why people always pulled over...

I imagine the wiring should be the same as my '97... and the pic in Lil Dog's gallery is great.

Connect RD/OR (16 Ga) (Red/Orange) - Pin 1 with the RD/GY (18 Ga) (Red/Gray) - Pin 4.

Has anyone installed an aftermarket DRL module, or do we all just not care?

I considered it, but I thought why bother. If I think its a foggy day or whatever I pop on the fog lights or the parking markers. For gravel roads I put my lights on anyway just as a force of habit..
